Being able to connect to SAFR SCAN from a desktop or server, but SAFR SCAN not being able to connect to server is VERY common for a few reasons:
- The SCAN devices are usually put on a secure video network VLAN. The PC and even SAFR Server are usually outside that on a less restrictive vlan
- Desktops and Servers are often allowed to connect into the VLAN on 443 and even http:80 since most cameras use that port for management
- Scan needs port 8080 thru 8087 to safr server which are uncommon ports and thus not going to be open by default (most secure networks will operate on an access denied default and build allow rules.
Additionally, it is worth noting:
- The secure VLAN for video cameras and access devices will often have NO route to the internet
- The vlan for desktops and servers often have a route to the internet thru http and/or https
- The result of above if you will OFTEN see that SAFR SCAN is unable to update firmware directly but SAFR Server is able to download the firmware and then side-load it.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Update to the latest firmware. While newer firmware will likely not fix the connection issue, there is additional connection tests and feedback in the latest firmware that may shed more light on the connection issue.
- Try enabling debug mode as described in Obtain debug logs for SAFR SCAN and viewing logs
