Below describes what to do if you get "Licensing failed" message when logging into server for first time?


The following error is sometimes likely due to a firewall blocking the SAFR Server from making a connection to the licensing server in order to acquire a license.


This can be resolved by doing the following:

Step by Step Instructions


1. Click "Load License Request File" and then click "Download from server...".   Sign in with your SAFR Software account.  When you submit, the license file will be loaded as shown below:

2. Click “Load License File” above and then Click “Download from Cloud…”. as shown below and enter your SAFR account credentials again.

If you are on a completely air-gapped network, the above step (Download from Cloud() will fail.  In that case, you will need to use a 2nd computer that has Ineternet access to complete the process.  See "Obtaining License File from 2nd Computer" below for details.


When submitted, Step 1 and Step 2 will be completed as shown below.

3. Click “Install License File”.  You will be prompted for your SAFR account password.

4. You should see a message “License Successfully Installed” in green

Obtaining License File from 2nd Computer


If Step 2 above fails to obtain the SAFR License File (.sfrl) from SAFR Cloud directly, you need to use a 2nd computer to obtain the license file.  To do this, you need to copy the SAFR License Request file to a 2nd computer anad use SAFR Desktop Lite Edition to download the SAFR License FIle.  This is explained below.


1. Locate the License Request File by using the “…” menu. Chose "View in folder" from "...".

2. Manually copy the file to the new PC that has internet access. 

3. On the new PC, install "SAFR Desktop Lite Edition".  See "Installing SAFR Desktop Lite Edition" below for details.

4. In the Manage Offline License Screen in SAFR Desktop Lite click "Load License File"

5. Click “Load License File” above and then Click “Download from Cloud…”.  as shown below and enter your SAFR account credentials again.

6. Locate the License File by using the “…” menu. Chose "View in folder" from "...".

7. Manually copy the file to the SAFR Server where you started this process.


You will again be viewing the dame dialog as above but without the License File added to Step 2 like this:

8. Click “Load License File” above and then Click “Load from Fille…” as shown below and select the SAFR License File (.sfrl) copied to the SAFR Server computer.

Installing SAFR Desktop Lite Edition

If your network is completely air-gapped, you will need to use a 2nd installation of SAFR Desktop to upload the License Request File (.slrq) and download the SAFR License File (.sfrl).  See below for details.


1. Open SAFR Downloads page at https://safr.real.com/download and download SAFR Desktop Lite Edition as shown below.


2. Install the application but DO NOT sign in

3. Launch the Application.  Click on Manage Offline License

4. Use this tool to proceed with the offline license instllation.
