1 Introduction

SAFR SCAN can be used to generate occupancy reports and person traffic reports. This document describes how to configure and report on occupancy using SAFR SCAN.

Occupancy reporting in SAFR SCAN requires 2 readers if both inbound and outbound traffic is required on a door. SAFR’s software-based solution using 3rd party cameras is able to do the same using a single camera due to the availability of person detection when processing video feeds on a computer. The same can be done with the RTSP Vide feed from SAFR SCAN or 2 readers (one inbound and one outbound) can be deployed to do the same. A future release of SAFR SCAN will add person detection so that only one reader is required per door for occupancy counting.

2 Configuration

To configure occupancy counting in SAFR SCAN, the direction of travel analytic needs to be enabled. This process is described below.

  1. Go to Video Feeds window.
  2. On SCAN go to “Advanced Feed Configuration”

  1. Search for “direction” and add either left or right (see below) depending on the direction that the door is located in:

The direction is from the point of view of the camera. So if you are looking at scan and you would go to the left to enter the door, then set the direction as right. This is not terribly important because in the report we’ll define what “right” means.

  1. Change the values to True. Leave distance at 0.1 but we can adjust this later if needed.

  1. To test it, open the Events window. You will see events like the following:

This was the result of a person approaching scan and then walking off to the left. Again, direction is from point of view of the camera.

3 Reporting

Occupancy reports are set up using SAFR Reporting. First, one or more Occupancy Areas are defined. An Occupancy Area is one or more doors that make up a space. Then you set up the occupancy reports for one or more Ooccupancy Areas. Below are documentation links that describe the occupancy reports:
