3.1 Installation Height
A key factor in optimal performance for SAFR SCAN is the mounting height and angle. Mounting angle refers to the orientation of the camera. The ideal performance is achieved when the subject is directly in line of the camera which is located on the front face of SAFR SCAN.
SAFR SCAN should be installed at a height of 46 to 58 inches (115 to 150cm) to the center of the device. Device should be placed with following considerations:
- As much as possible, place device so line of sight of camera is in line with foot traffic approaching the door.
- When possible, place device so that subject is 3 feet (1 meter) away and in line of sight of the camera when their hand is placed on the door and ready for entry.
- When necessary, line of sight of the camera should be away from bright light sources such as large outdoor windows or bright light sources.
Ideal mounting height is 55 inches (140cm) to the center of the device. At this height SAFR is able to work for subjects as low as 2 feet (1m) and as high as 8 feet (2.5m) at a distance of 4 feet from the reader. The following diagram demonstrates the range with SCAN mounted at 55 inches.
4 Installation
4.1 Site Preparation
SAFR SCAN Flush Mount is installed by creating a cutout in the surface it is being installed upon. Any material of any thickness is supported but surfaces thicker than 1.5 inches will require longer toggle bolts than what is provided with the packaging.
Once the height and location is selected the cutout should be created according to the following diagram.
Create an opening 4.8 inches square as shown. You can use the Wall Plate as a template and draw a line on the inside of the Wall Plate. Rounded corners are recommended but not required but will improve mounting strength. Notches must be cut into the opening at indicated locations in order to allow clips to expand and secure the unit to the wall plate. See wall plate for notch locations. Two small notches must be made at the top and one larger notch at the bottom.
4.2 Mounting Wall Plate
Secure the wall plate to the wall as described below.
-
Place the wall plate around the opening and mark the 4 holes at the corners of the wall plate.
- The two small notches should be on top.
- Remove wall plate and drill a 5/32" (4mm) hole at each of the 4 marked locations.
-
Replace wall plate and use the 4 included toggle bolts to attach the wall plate to the wall.
- Use the opening to hold the toggle nut and attach to the bolt.
- Once all toggle bolts are secured, tighten.
4.3 Attach Flush Mount Housing to SAFR SCAN
Attach Flush Mount housing to SAFR SCAN as described below.
-
Remove existing mounting bracket from back of SAFR SCAN.
- Use a 2 mm hex wrench to remove the #4-40 set screws from the bottom of the bracket.
- Keep the two screws to use in attaching flush mount housing.
- Remove the Mounting Bracket from SAFR SCAN.
-
Place the Flush Mount housing over the back of SAFR SCAN.
- Orient the Flush Mount so the two threaded tabs are on the bottom.
-
Slide the Flush Moun`t housing down.
- You should feel the Flush Mount housing "snap" into place.
- Secure the Flush Mount to SAFR SCAN using the two screws at the bottom of the Flush Mount.
4.4 Attach SAFR SCAN to Wall Plate
Attach the SAFR SCAN with Flush Mount attached to the wall plate as follows.
- Ensure the two small tabs are at top.
- Slide the assembly into the opening.
- Press the bottom until you hear a click.
- Press the top until you hear a second click.
- Pull the top and bottom to ensure the clips have seated into the notches.
4.5 Removing SAFR SCAN
To remove SAFR SCAN from the Flush Mount, use a flat head screwdriver and press into the opening at the bottom of the wall bracket. This will release the lower clip. As you press, pull the bottom of the SAFR SCAN out until it is released from the clip. Continue to pull the lower side until top clips are released as well.
